The short version
There are no accounts, no tracking pixels and no advertising networks on this site. Links you paste are used to fetch the video you asked for and are not retained afterwards. Downloaded files are never archived.
Who is responsible for your data
TechSpot Video Downloader is operated by TECHSPOT, which is the data controller for the limited information described below.
What is collected
- Download counters. When a file is served, the platform name (for example "youtube") and the quality chosen (for example "1080") are recorded, along with a timestamp. This is what powers the counter on the home page.
- Rate limiting. Your IP address is held briefly in a short-lived cache so the service can tell how many requests have come from one place recently. It expires on its own and is not written to the database or linked to any download.
- Server logs. Errors are logged so faults can be diagnosed. When a video fails to fetch, the technical error is recorded. Logs rotate and are discarded over time.
What is not collected
- No account, email address, name or password, because there is nothing to sign up for.
- No permanent record of the links you paste or the videos you download.
- No advertising or analytics trackers, and no third-party cookies.
- No browser fingerprinting or cross-site profiling.
Cookies
One cookie is set: a standard session cookie used to carry the security token that protects the form against cross-site request forgery. It is functional, not analytical, and it expires when your session ends.
Where files go
In most cases the video is streamed straight through the server to your browser and is never written to disk. When a file has to be assembled first, because the video and audio arrive as separate streams or you asked for MP3, it is built in a temporary folder and deleted as soon as the transfer to your browser ends.
Third parties
To fetch a video, this server contacts the platform you linked to. That platform will see the request coming from the server, not from you. Their handling of that request is governed by their own privacy policy.
Apart from that, the site loads nothing from anyone else. Fonts, styles, scripts and icons are all served from this domain, so simply opening a page does not report your visit to any third party. Video thumbnails shown after you analyse a link are loaded from the source platform's image servers, which is the one exception and only happens once you paste a link.
Data retention
Video metadata is cached for a short period, measured in minutes, so that pressing download does not require re-fetching everything. Rate limit entries expire within minutes. Download counters hold no personal data and are kept indefinitely as aggregate numbers.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, erase or restrict the use of personal data held about you, and to object to it being processed. Because no personal data is stored against you here, there is in practice nothing to hand over or delete.
If you believe otherwise, write to and TECHSPOT will look into it and reply within 5 working days. You may also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
This service is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify one. No account exists, and no profile is built about any visitor.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised as the service changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated, and continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
